24 Jan New Richard Mille Tourbillons for Rafael Nadal and Yohan Blake
Richard mille RM027-01 Rafael Nadal Tourbillon
Here we have the latest iteration of his Rafael Nadal collection for 2013. The most famous of the Nadal watches was the Chronofiable-certified RM035, which is the rugged watch you’ll see surviving on the wrist of the tennis champion when he plays professionally. An extension of this was the RM027 Tourbillon, which follows the same design and is known for its extreme lightness. The new RM027-1 combines aspects of both, showing off a tourbillon held in total suspension, which lets this titanium and lithium-made movement withstand accelerations of over 5,000 Gs and still keep its accuracy. A weave of ultra-thin 0.35mm cables suspends the movement within a carbon case, weighing only 19 grams total. The anthracite color comes from a high concentration of carbon nanotubes, that are highly resistant to scratches and abrasions. this watch is sealed onto the wrist with a velcro strap. Limited to 50 pieces.
Richard Mille RM059-01 Yohan Blake Tourbillon
The Yohan Blake is the newest member Richard Mille’s team and is presented with his second luxury watch, a reptilian-styled new tourbillon. He made headlines during the London 2012 Olympics, when he wore his first Jamaican flag colored RM watch during a race and against the Olympic sponsor rules. His new tourbillon for 2013 still features the Jamaican colors, but uses a unique green reptile-like case. We don’t have full details on this timepiece, but its case uses a translucent composite that’s injected with carbon nanotubes. The tourbillon movement features bridges made of an anti-corrosive alloy of aluminium, magnesium, silicon and titanium. And yes, if you’re buying a watch that’s not injected with carbon nanotubes in 2013, I have no idea how you’re going to tell the time on it. Also limited to 50 pieces.
