I was extremely excited to see the Czar Nicholas II Five-Minute Repeater Pocket Watch come onto the market as it’s something we’ll never see again most likely. With the amount of watches, phones and other time devices it’s not often someone actually uses a pocket watch these days. To me, this is kind of sad! While you’re more than likely going to be labeled a “hipster” if you do, at least with this pocket watch you know you have something special. But who am I kidding? The new owner of this one of a kind gadget will definitely keep this in a safe place.
So for $725,000 USD, why is this five-minute repeater so special? Well for starters it was made exclusively for Czar Nicholas II of Russia. His reign saw Imperial Russia go from being Nicholas the second ruled from 1894 until his abdication on March 15th 1917. For the history buffs out there he is quite well known and I imagine this time piece is going to easily fetch its asking price.
This pocket watch has an 18k Yellow Gold case and the movements are none other than Patek-Philippe. The watch was commissioned by Tiffany & Co and was a thoughtful gift from Czarina Alexandra (formerly Alix of Hesse). Needless to say, she had excellent taste in gifts! This amazing work of art was commissioned by Tiffany & Co. and features a diamond jewel border and his monogram by Faberge.
